CHOQUEQUIRAO TREK 5 Days/4 Nights

Overview

 

  • On our 5 days trek, you will enjoy the beauty of the Peruvian Andes with the ultimate archeological destination: The royal Inca city of Choquequirao, one of the most remote and least visited Inca sites. You will hike down and up the Apurimac River valley taking in dramatic views of the canyon flanked by snow-capped mountains on the horizon. There is a wide variety of flora and fauna as you change elevations, and if you’re lucky you will see condors and spectacled bear. You will have a full day to explore Choquequirao, the unforgettable lost city of the last Inca king, noblemen and clergy. On this trek we organize lodging and food along the trail, you do not need to bring camping equipment , only your day pack and overnight gear which will be transported by mule. You will stay with host families Local lodge, in a bed every night, and experience Quechua culture up close. In traveling with the Choquequirao Guest House, the trek will not be as difficult as people carrying their own backpacks loaded with gear, this new option makes the trek much easier and fun. Plus, you will have many interactions with people from small Quechua villages. The 5 days trek includes transportation from Cusco to Cachora but if you want to arrive in Cachora on your own that is okay, we are highly flexible with all our tours and treks.

Day 1: Cusco - Cachora – Capuliyoc- Chikisca – Playa Rosalina

 

  • We will pick you up at your hotel in Cusco at 6:00 pm for the 3:30 hours travel to Cachora.
  • On our way we will visit a tropical fruit stand and the Saywite archeological site before arriving at the Choquequirao Guest House (hotel) in Cachora where you will have lunch.  After lunch you will then take a 40 minutes drive with your guide to the trailhead at Capuliyoc. At the trailhead we will look at the distant view of Choquequirao and pack up our gear to begin the hike down to chikisca. Here you will enjoy lunch in Chikisca, and after lunch check in to our local lodge. We will be low in the valley and the temperatures will be warm.

Day 2: Chikisca -  Playa Rosalina – Santa Rosa – Marampata

 

  • On our second day, we will begin with an early breakfast and start hiking as the sun rises in order to beat the heat on the sunny trail along the Apurimac valley. We start hiking at 6 am in 1 hour  downhill we arrive  to Apurimac river then  In 2 hours, and after crossing the Apurimac River, we will arrive at Santa Rosa where you will take a refreshing break and try local Chicha (royal drink of the Inca), or another beverage, and a snack. After your break with a local family, we will walk uphill for 2 to 3 hours and arrive at Marampata where a local family awaits you with lunch. In the afternoon we will explore Marampata and learn about Quechua farming and lifestyle, or you can spend time on your own. We will stay overnight in a local lodge, with dinner and a hot shower.

Day 3: Marampata – Choquequirao – Marampata

 

  • We will enjoy a good breakfast early in the morning before hiking 2 hours to the majestic ancient Inca city of Choquequirao. We will spend the entire day exploring the archeological site with buildings in different areas, the main plaza, agricultural terraces, and the famous llama walls. Lunch in choquequirao, late in the afternoon we will return to the lodge in Marampata to relax, eat dinner and take a good sleep.

Day 4: Marampata – Santa Rosa – Playa Rosalina – Chikisca

 

  • After a good night’s sleep and an early breakfast, we will pack our gear to hike back to Chikisca . Following the same trail out,  We will stop at Playa Rosalina  to have a short break  then  after a good break we will  keep hiking to Chikisca.  Here we will  spend the night   lodging  lunch and dinner.

Day 5: chikisca – capuliyoc - Cachora – Cusco

 

  • We wake up at 5:00 am then have breakfast  at 5:30 am, we start hiking it will take approximately 4 hours to climb uphill to the Capuliyoc lookout point where we began our trek.  At this point  our  transport  will be waiting to drive us to the Choquequirao Guest House in Cachora. We will have a good lunch and cold drink to celebrate the end of the trek and our successful visit to Choquequirao. After lunch you will be transported to cusco.
